Our expectations were exceeded!
The delivery crew was as conscientious, polite, and professional as the loading crew. Having not used a professional moving company for over 20 years, we were curious to determine if the internet had changed the industry. Had online reviews made any changes in pricing or quality? Were the national franchises now on a level playing field with the locals? We did our characteristic due diligence in researching the options and invited estimators from our top three choices to review our goods and submit a bid. Fred, the estimator from Metropolitan Van & Storage, an Atlas affiliate, was head and shoulders above the others in professionalism, helpful suggestions about how we could save money, and advice on secure packing. Hoping that his behavior was characteristic of the rest of the company’s employees, we selected them. Our expectations were exceeded. The loading crew called in advance and arrived on time. All three joined us on a walk-through to survey the scope of their work and to prioritize the loading sequence. And all three asked pertinent questions. We quickly realized that these guys knew what they were doing and had lots of experience doing it. They worked seamlessly with each other and paused only for a brief lunch and when we insisted that they accept a bottle of water. We were astounded by their strength and stamina. Because the timing of possession of our new house depended on several factors beyond our control, our goods had to be stored for an undetermined amount of time. This introduced another layer of anxiety, thinking that additional handling meant increasing the possibility of damage. Our fears, it turns out, were unnecessary. Once we overcame the obstacles for possession of the new house, the painters sprang into action, followed by the hardwood floor installers. Based on one unforeseen complication, nine days before the scheduled delivery of our goods, I called apologetically to push back delivery by one day. Then, six days before that revised delivery date a major complication arose (800 pounds of concrete to level the living room floor), requiring yet another day’s delay. We were assured that that schedule could be met. During both reschedules, the soothing voice at Metropolitan Van & Storage said that these things happen, that they would accommodate our needs, and that all they asked was as much lead time as possible. The day of delivery finally arrived and began with a walk-through by all three workers. Eager to help, I volunteered to check off the number of each piece as it came off the truck, and my wife directed traffic (location of items brought in). By 2:30 p.m. the truck was empty, all pieces had been accounted for, and our California king bed was assembled. Our sense of relief was palpable. None of the fragile things they packed was broken, and only two of the things we packed (a butter dish and a shell) were. We recommend Metropolitan Van & Storage without reservation, and predict that all moves will be as professional as ours was.
